Overview
Walton Heath Old Course:
Founded by Sir Cosmo Bonsor in 1903, and designed by Herbert Fowler, a leading amateur of the era, The Old Course at Walton Heath is currently ranked 81st out of the top 100 golf courses in the world.
It has hosted over 60 major amateur and professional championships in its illustrious history, including the 1981 Ryder Cup, 5 European Opens and 23 News of the World Matchplay Championships.
Fowler initially created the course as a nine-hole course, extending it to eighteen holes before the First World War. The championship length of the Old Course is over 7,000 yards, and the visitor is more likely to play it at a still lengthy yardage of approximately 6,800.
Tangly heather often frames the fairways so the wayward golfer can really pay the penalty off the tee.
There are some really strong holes on the Old Course - one of the best of the outward nine is the 5th, a fantastic and incredibly challenging 391-yard par four.
Walton Heath New Course:
The New Course at Walton Heath was designed by Herbert Fowler and originally opened for play in 1907 as a nine hole golf course.
Extended to 18 holes in 1913, this course is a decent challenge to all levels of golfer. Heather is a major feature all around and wayward golf shots can be severely punished here.
