The Addington Golf Club Overview

Overview

The Addington was designed in 1912 by Jone Frederick Abercromby who was accredited as being 'one of the finest architects in all of golf'. In many senses, the course is golf's secret garden and many believe it is Abercromby's finest creation.

With fairways framed by a natural forest of English Oak, Silver Birch, Beech and Cedar trees, rickety bridges spanning glorious heathland dells, and the occasional peacock wandering around, the course's idyllic location allows for a real feeling of intimacy.

The course has certainly had it's fair share of plaudits. Former member and acclaimed golf wiiter Henry Longhurst described the 230 yard par 3, 13th hole as 'with the exception of the fifth at Pine Valley, near Philadelphia, the greatest one-shot hole in inland golf'. The 16th is also included in his all time great golf holes.

The 6th hole was famously referenced by author PG Wodehouse who stated "anyone wishing to write to the author should address all correspondence to: PG Wodehouse, c/o the 6th bunker, The Addington Golf Club, Croydon, Surrey".

The Addington will challenge and excite golfers of all abilities. With no one hole the same The Addington ensures golfers will need every shot in the bag to navigate their way round this exceptional golf course.
